meet CEO Laura Scher
“As a child of the ’70s, I was raised in the midst of antiwar marches and the women’s
liberation movement. But I was probably first struck by the need for social change
when I was 11 and read Rachel Carson’s Silent Spring – the book that pretty
much put environmentalism on the map.”
“From then on, most of my life’s decisions have been informed by whether or not
they effect social change - including my choice of career. I started out with Working
Assets - before we changed the name to CREDO - and had the privilege of helping
the company and its membership grow into a real force for change. We became this
unique long distance company that’s deeply involved in progressive causes, donates
millions of dollars to wonderful nonprofits and sends out a phone bill that’s also
a citizen action newsletter.”
“Now I have the privilege of helping us grow even more, as the progressive choice
in mobile phone service. More importantly, I have the honor of representing our
members.”
“And whether I’m distributing donations checks in San Francisco or visiting the
Global Fund for Women’s anti-domestic violence program in the slums of Mumbai, I
never forget it’s those committed and generous members who make such inspirational
moments possible. And, above all, it’s their energy and enthusiasm that makes me
so hopeful about the next 20 years of CREDO.”
