Our People

Our achievements reflect the efforts of a remarkable group of women and men who have committed their skills and passion to building a unique organization. Today’s employees benefit from the accomplishments of those who came before. We’ve always been proud of the company we keep. All along, we’ve benefited from the continuity in leadership—and values—provided by our two cofounders. In addition, our team of senior managers brings a wealth of experience and skills, as well as a passion for working for social change.

LAURA SCHER – Cofounder

Laura is cofounder, former CEO and current executive chair of Working Assets/CREDO. Laura teaches “Social Innovation and Entrepreneurship” at Stanford University and has coauthored chapters in several inspirational books, including The Business of Changing the World, edited by Marc Benioff; and Hands On! 33 More Things Every Girl Should Know, edited by Suzanne Harper. Laura serves on the Board of Advisors of the Yale School of Management, and on the boards of the Salesforce.com Foundation and the Rosenberg Foundation. She has a bachelor’s in economics from Yale University, studied at the Institute for International Studies in Geneva, and earned an MBA from Harvard Business School.

Michael is CEO, president and cofounder of CREDO/Working Assets. Prior to cofounding Working Assets, he served at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, as an economic advisor to Gov. Jerry Brown of California (way back in time from 1980–1982), and helped create several socially responsible investment funds. Michael also serves on the boards of the League of Conservation Voters, the One PacificCoast Foundation and the Beatitudes Society, and teaches a seminar on innovations in microfinance at Stanford. He earned a Ph.D. in public policy from Harvard and undergraduate degrees in biology and economics from Stanford.

BECKY BOND – Vice President and Political Director

As political director, Becky helps CREDO customers and CREDO Action members fight for progressive change in Washington, D.C. and in state capitols. She is the president of CREDO SuperPAC and serves on the board of the New Organizing Institute. Becky ran CREDO’s campaign to register more than one million voters in 2004 and the successful effort to defeat California’s Prop 23 in 2010. She began her career here as the producer of Working Assets Radio, which aired on San Francisco’s NPR affiliate KALW from 2001–2003. Before that, Becky ran a conceptual art practice in San Francisco called South to the Future. She is a Nashville native and a political science graduate of Williams College. Becky uses a bicycle as everyday transportation and hasn’t owned a car since 2006. She is proud of having been arrested twice during her tenure at CREDO—protesting the invasion of Iraq in 2003, and protesting the Keystone XL pipeline at the White House in 2011.

STEVE GUNN – Vice President, Operations

Steve is responsible for working with our most important asset, our customers. He also manages our vendor relations, legal and regulatory relations, and facilities. He joined CREDO (then Working Assets) in 1991 to help build the resale long-distance phone company and has been an integral part of our growth into a thriving mobile business. Steve graduated from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst where he studied economics. When he’s not in the office building relationships with vendors, Steve builds things with his hands. He has renovated homes, built displays for CREDO to use at tradeshows and crafted mini oil rigs that were used at rallies to fight California’s Prop 23. Passionate about the environment, Steve is an ardent recycler, owns two hybrid cars and is getting solar panels installed on his house.

TRISH TOBIN – Vice President, Marketing

Trish heads up CREDO’s daring and creative marketing team. Before joining CREDO Trish led marketing for Treater, a mobile and social gifting start-up. She became interested in start-ups out of experiences running marketing for online advertising pioneer Lowermybills.com and prior to that at AOL where she rose to VP of Acquisition Marketing. Trish leveraged her digital experience to grow online marketing channels as CMO for Women for Women International and had the privilege of visiting the program work in Rwanda and Kosovo. In addition to world travel, Trish is a museum buff, having started her marketing career at the National Gallery of Art, and is an ardent supporter of international women’s rights. She earned an MBA from Yale School of Management and a BA from The College of William & Mary.

HARUKO KURATA – Vice President, Product Development

Haruko oversees the acquisition and development of all mobile phones and related products at CREDO. Before joining CREDO, she served as Product Manager at Moderati, a mobile content provider. She worked with Qualcomm, as well as other original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and operators to create content training and provide marketing support for Qualcomm's embedded multimedia software. Haruko holds a B.S. in electrical engineering from the University of Washington and an M.S. in electrical engineering from Santa Clara University. Throughout her career in technology, she has always been one of only a handful of women—something she hopes to see change in the future. She looks forward to a day when being a woman at the Consumer Electronics Show isn't an oddity. In her spare time, Haruko likes to spend time with her family, play competitive tennis and scuba dive.

DOUG MOORE – Vice President, Chief Financial Officer

Doug is responsible for financial strategy and management, pricing, carrier relations, and product. Doug came to CREDO from the management consulting firm of Arthur D. Little, where he advised companies in the energy and telecommunications industries. He worked with both domestic and international companies to develop strategies to pursue new business opportunities and reposition themselves in more competitive markets. Prior to that, Doug worked as an Operations Research Engineer at Dynamics Research Corporation and as an English teacher at Yunnan University in southwestern China. Doug holds a B.S. in industrial engineering from Stanford University. As a committed environmentalist and long-time member of both the San Francisco and Marin bicycle coalitions, Doug commutes to work by bike daily.

SIMON WILLIAMS – Vice President, Engineering

Simon manages the development and support of the systems that enable CREDO to provide services and products to our customers. He has spent 25 years in IT, including 20 years at wireless telecommunications and technology companies. Before joining CREDO, Simon served as Chief Technology Officer for AccountNow, a leading provider of online prepaid debit cards, and prior to that was the Vice President of Engineering at Goodmail Systems, Inc., a provider of certified email services. A native of Wales, Simon started his telecom career at Vodafone, where he worked on one of the earliest GSM systems before joining Orange. He then cofounded Aethos Communication Systems, the company that pioneered the growth of prepaid mobile phone usage in Europe. Simon came to the US in 1996 to work on the launch of GSM services in California and Nevada, and then ran a software and consulting company for eight years. When he’s not working, Simon runs a personal taxi service for his children, plays bass guitar (badly, he says) and occasionally participates in motorcycle road racing events on his CREDO Mobile BMW S1000RR.
