The BlackBerry® Bold™ 9930 smartphone supports international roaming on both CDMA and GSM networks for service in over 228 countries around the world. In order to use your phone in most countries, the SIM card that came with your phone will need to be installed and activated.
If you didn’t activate the SIM card when you activated your phone, please call our customer service team at 800-411-0848 at least a week before your trip abroad to get your phone set up for international use.
You can find more information on using your phone abroad, including applicable rates by country, on our Traveling Abroad page.
If you need a replacement SIM card, please call us at 800-411-0848. Be sure to activate your new SIM card at least one week prior to traveling abroad by calling that same number.
Please note: CREDO Mobile SIM cards can only be used with your CREDO Mobile phone.
Your BlackBerry smartphone is SIM-unlocked so you may use prepaid SIM cards designed for international use (sold here and abroad) with your phone. With most prepaid SIM cards, data won’t work so you’ll only have access to email and web browsing over Wi-Fi.
Please note: SIM cards for use in the U.S. (such as a T-Mobile or AT&T SIM card) will not work with you CREDO Mobile phone.
If you're having trouble with your voice or data services abroad:
- Take the battery out of your phone for at least 30 seconds.
- While the battery is out, check that the SIM card is inserted correctly. The SIM card’s metal contacts should be facing down and the cutoff corner of the SIM card should be pointing toward the top-left corner of the phone.
- Replace the battery. Your phone should automatically restart. If not, hold down the End/Power
key (
) for a few seconds.
- Make sure the phone is in Global mode so it’s compatible with the local cellular network technology. To do this:
From the home screen, swipe up the navigation bar or double-press the Menu key (
) to open the All panel if it’s closed, and then select Manage Connections (
) > Networks and Connections > Mobile Network. Network Technology should be set to Global.
- If Global mode isn’t working, try selecting GSM/UMTS or 1XEV, depending on which network is available in the country you're in.
- If you’ve done all of the above and your phone is displaying SOS in the top right corner, this could indicate that the signal is too weak, the SIM card isn’t inserted correctly or your phone wasn’t activated for international use.
If you’re only experiencing a problem with your data connection, you may want to update your network profile.
