Who We Fund
When we tell our members that they’re part of a movement—not just a network—we mean it. This movement has raised more than $70 million for progressive nonprofit groups that are working on the front lines of social change. From protecting rainforests and providing vital health services for millions of women and children, to fighting for clean elections and giving voice to victims of torture, the nonprofits we fund are courageously carrying out their work here and abroad.
The money we raise comes from 1% of customers’ charges, and many of our generous members provide extra donations by rounding up their monthly bill to the next dollar or more. In 2011, we raised $2.7 million and distributed that amount among the groups we support. You can see the complete 2011 Donations Report here.
And in keeping with our commitment to inclusiveness and participation, and our belief in the collective wisdom of progressive members and activists, we count on them to help us distribute the money by voting in our donations ballot each year. In 2011, more than 70,000 people voted.
In the coming years, we’re confident we'll be raising more money each year and driving more people to vote. As grateful as we are for our members—who help us raise and distribute the money—the groups we fund appreciate them even more.
